Beautiful Laura
Laura on the Cardoon Path at the bottom of the Flicker Food Forest. Cardoons are closely related to artichokes and were considered a delicacy by the ancient Romans. Beyond Laura and the cardoons is a living fence of willows that Roberto planted between the farm and our eastern neighbors. The willows function both as a privacy screen and a sponge to drink up water that drains down the hillside. Their feet aren’t wet for long: Willows grow incredibly fast and can be used as firewood for a carbon-neutral effect. For this reason, the journalist George Monbiot recommends them in his book on global warming, Heat.
